Gyan Mandir, Ludhiana

Flanked by hundreds of volunteers on all sides Sri Sri and Bhanu Didi inaugurated the Gyan Mandir in Ludhiana.

On the occasion, the Industry Minister for Punjab said, “Kalyug main Kirtan Pradhan hai. Gyaan toh kitaabon main bahut hai, Guru bin gyaan nahin. Guru hi shishya ko gyaan deta hai.” (Satsang is very essential in Kalyug. There is a lot of knowledge in books but without the Guru it is of no use. Only the Guru gives knowledge to the disciple)

Sri Sri said:

The first Gyan Mandir in Punjab, in fact north India has been established here. Till date there was no such replica of Vishalakshi Mantap, Bangalore. One thing worth noting here is that just like in Bangalore, when we inaugurated the Vishalakshi Mantap on January 17, 2001, the place seemed small for the number of people who had gathered there. The same thing happened here as well.

Many buildings are built everyday but the places where knowledge is shared, Satsang is held, become eternal. In these places lakhs of people experience peace, improve their physical and mental health. When people come here they leave behind their sadness and go home smiling. In these places there is spiritual progress. Such places become Shashwat (renowned).

When people ask me to inaugurate jails and hospitals I tell them I don’t do that! They should be closed instead of opening new ones. Gyan Mandir is a place where people come with their ‘Samasyas’ (problems) and go with a Samadhan (solution). It’s a place where tears of sadness turn to tears of joy. Gyaan ke zariye jo muskaan khilti hai kabhi murjhati nahin. (The smile and joy that blossoms out of knowledge never fades away.)

At times we go to temples only to appear good in the eyes of others and not out of true feelings of devotion. That is of no use.

President Obama on his visit to India praised Indians for their humility and generosity. Thoughts like ‘this is mine, that is yours’ reflect immaturity. Vasudeva Kutumbakam the whole world is one family. We must strengthen this resolve. In Gyan Mandir, in fact everywhere people should come together and do Satsang and meditate. We must come out of the narrow horizons of our minds and raise a new level of enthusiasm towards service of the society.

I met around four thousand kids. Their enthusiasm, their curiosity, their questions overwhelmed educationists. People were stunned with the amount of transformation students underwent through the courses.

People from 25000 families underwent the de-addiction camps. Some of them shared their experiences yesterday. They had tears in their eyes as they spoke. We have to make the youth free from all these addictions and yet make them happy and relaxed. Only then Punjab will be Balle Balle

Punjab is the face of India. When there is any discomfort it is reflected on the person’s face. Just like the face Punjab has every sense organ- the sense of vision, sense of hearing. Gyaan ka jo bhi ang hai, Punjab main maujood hai. (Every aspect of knowledge is present in Punjab.)

People should read the Gurumukhi. The world’s best greeting has come from Punjab- Sat Sri Akaal meaning Satya, Sampatti, Amritva (Truth, Prosperity, Eternity.) Punjab- the land from where such precious knowledge spread to the world must not become a place where drugs and alcoholism is rampant

The Industry Minister is here. When there is addiction and lack of knowledge, industries do not prosper. On Diwali, the alcohol sales were three times more than the average! Yesterday the Health Minister said that sadly in Punjab, alcohol is a part of every occasion- voting, election results, on winning to celebrate and on losing to relax, in sports, everywhere streams of alcohol are flowing everywhere. Gyan Mandir is the only solution. We’ll keep different programs here- Japji Sahib, Sukhmani Sahib once a year. Guru Gobind Singh ji used to perform Chandi Homa. We’ll also have educational seminars here and ofcourse various Advance and Basic Meditation Courses.

Lots of love and blessings to everyone.

YES!+ Ludhiana

November 10, 2010

An enthusiastic 18 year old: Guruji I don’t know if there is heaven or hell or not but I’ve experienced heaven over here.

Q. Guruji I have been doing seva for some years now. I have been following you from Chandigarh since morning only to ask one question. I really enjoy doing seva but at times my faith gets shaken. Why does it happen?
Sri Sri: Even if your faith gets shaken there still is an underlying hope that stays. Your faith gets shaken only on the surface. Deep within it stays. if it wasn’t so you wouldn’t have come to meet me here.

Q. Guruji why do my eyes fill with tears on seeing you?
Sri Sri: Jab dil khilta hai toh aansun tapakte hain.

Q. Guruji I want to touch your feet.
Sri Sri: I give flying hugs! Catch them!

Q. Guruji you are showing us the path of goodness. How do we deal with all the negativity we encounter in our life?
Sri Sri: Sehajta se (In a natural way) Just be natural. When you are natural everything will go fine.

Q. So many desires come in the mind. Should we allow the mind to go behind them?
Sri Sri: Give the mind what it wants after carefully examining with your intellect. You can’t run after whatever the mind wants

Q. Guruji how do you feel after coming to Punjab?
Sri Sri: Changa lag reha hai! (I’m feeling good) Vadhiya.

Q. How do I make quick decisions?
Sri Sri: Say Jai Guru Dev, everything will be great!

Q. Earlier I used to feel I’ve achieved a lot in life but today after meeting you I feel I have actually got something in my life.

Q. Guruji how do I retain this positivity that I’ve gained by coming here?
Sri Sri: Once you’ve learnt to ride a bicycle can you forget it? No, you can ride it anywhere anytime you want. this knowledge will stay with you wherever you are.

Q. Guruji I want to have dinner with you one day.
Sri Sri: And why not lunch?

Q. Guruji do you know me?
Sri Sri: Do you feel this is the first time we’re meeting? What’s your name?
My friends call me Ravi
Sri Sri: (smiling) Amma Appa used to call me that too.

Q. Guruji is it true that our sixth sense develops if we meditate?
Sri Sri: Yes, ofcourse!

Q. Guruji when we organise an event a sense of doership and ego sets in.
Sri Sri: You should give your 100% and then relax. Don’t think too much about what you did and what you didn’t. it’s an exercise for you to keep your smile intact come what may. Generally when our work isn’t getting done we lose our smile too. Atleast keep your smile. Don’t lose out on both the work as well as smile.

Q. Guruji I’ve enriched my knowledge tremendously. I feel this course should’ve been kept open for people above 30 as well
Sri Sri: We have different courses for different age groups. Here the youth can discuss their issues. Their issues are different. The courses have different shades of the same knowledge.

Q. Guruji I’m really thankful to you. I feel like telling the whole world to experience this. But my parents don’t listen to me. They say Punjab has a lot of so called Gurus. How to handle parents?
Sri Sri: Tell them to try it once! All those who feel this way should become Art of Living teachers.

Q. Guruji what is Belongingness?
Sri Sri: Belongingness is your nature when you are relaxed. It’s the way you feel for everyone when you are fearless.

Q. Guruji Sat Sri Akal.
Sri Sri: It’s the best greeting in the world. It encompasses the whole purpose of life.  Sat Sri Akal means Truth, Prosperity and Eternity.

Q. I forgot the question for which I took the mike! Guruji do you dye your hair?
Sri Sri: Do they look like that?

Q. Will I be punished for all the ‘wrong’ thoughts I get in my mind?
Sri Sri: (laughing) No, don’t worry about them. Just keep doing your Kriya.

Q. How do you remain so active even though you sleep so less?
Sri Sri: That’s a trade secret!

Excerpts from Guruji’s Punjab Visit! :)

Sri Sri: I see you have already named this event as Anandutsav. So what should we do now? When the mind is already happy, what is the need for communication? ;)

Q. What is Pooja?

Bringing happiness to someone is Pooja. It is possible only when we ourselves are relieved of stress. When we are happy things start happening effortlessly. Jo aap chahte hain voh ho jaata hai. (Whatever you want starts happening.)

You must have a strong faith that whatever I want will happen, that whatever I want I’ll get. Know that The One who made you loves you dearly. The first step is to know that The One we belong to is with us all the time.

In your classrooms and offices look out for who is not smiling. Just give them a pinch! Tell them, ‘ Come on, Smile!’ A baby smiles four hundred times in a day, an adolescent seventeen times and adults don’t smile at all! Smile is the best make up or ornament you can wear.

We must be enthusiastic, bubbling with joy and positivity. Whenever you feel negativity is taking over you, dance or meditate, listen to some music, practice yoga, any art, do service. Go to a place where people are under privileged. You will immediately realize how small your worries are. We are so lucky. Each one of us needs to grow up. Go out communicate with people. Don’t limit yourself to a small friend circle. Make one new friend everyday!

Eye of the Cyclone

The eye of the cyclone is an interesting place. It is also an inspiring place. Surrounded by a 10 km wall of  Thick (see picture for just how thick) cumulo-nimbus clouds, the eye is an area of calm and clear weather conditions. Clouds recede as this space increases. The causes for eye-formation are still unknown.

In the diffused blue light of the morning sky, when the birds are still asleep in their nests and the whole world is at rest, a petite figure stands near the damp, unplastered boundary wall of a roof, her elbows resting gently on the wall still wet from the night’s rain.

There is pure silence. Pure cause it’s free from the attributes of awkwardness, comfort, discomfort. Pure silence- the mark of a mind at rest. Rest- the source of creativity. And we think it is chaos. We don’t see the underlying perfection in it. Perfection doesn’t flaunt. It gets covered under layers of imperfection, lying in subtleties we don’t have time for.

There’s a calmness in this moment. Free from the feverishness, the sense of urgency to ‘do’ something which is inherant at every other time of the day. Aware of the intrinsic flaw that lies in believing we’re in control.

It is still. Perfectly still. The kind of stillness one links with space. Not a leaf flutters. No sign of the faintest breeze. Yet there is something dynamic about this stillness. A rising energy, a rolling light, that energizes everything it falls on, if we only take our attention towards it.

As it turns slightly sky blue and black, silhouettes of trees in the forest secretly reveal themselves, to those who wake up to see them. Much like the ‘invisible’ mysterious things, our universe is full of, that patiently wait to be explored, often laughing at us as we unfailingly fail to see them.

‘Yesterday’ she was advised to stay away from this forest. ‘Yesterday’, which like a dream has passed and from which nothing more can be derieved, just as in a dream.

And there is Today. Today, with its infinite possibilities in each second. Today, offering to us, nothing less than infinity itself.

You need to empty your hands to receive what is being offered, or it might just slip off.

She gradually opens her eyes now that she has enough space to accept what it offers.

The meditation has just begun.
